The wood harvest begins somewhere in our 120 acres of beautiful native southern Illinois timber . . .

After that the band mill is used to saw pieces in a wide range of sizes . . .

then limbs are trimmed from the downed trees and logs are stacked and waiting to be milled.
and the pieces come to the Trading Post, ready for you!

The woods also provide us with renewable energy for an autumn get-together with friends and family around a blazing bonfire, or to get the old wood stove going on a cold winter night.
While we do mill logs brought to us from nearby Franklin and Jackson counties, much of our wood comes from our own 120 acres of forested land in Williamson county. A large part of this land was once used by small farmers for raising crops. Now, it is a great woodland habitat for wildlife of all kinds. An additional benefit to the environment is that, as we like to say, we are growing a nice, big crop of oxygen!

We Practice Sustainable Forestry - Here is How It Works For Us
The bottom line for you is a unique selection of beautiful natural edge wood slabs and pieces. Come see what we have to offer and let your creativity take it from there!
A wooded area of this size just naturally encourages the use of sustainable forestry practices. Many trees have been partially damaged or weakened by common natural occurrences (weather, for example), but the logs are still in excellent condition. We take these trees, process the logs with our bandmill, then bring them here to the JC Lakecreek Trading Post. Once these trees are removed, the woods rapidly fill in the spaces left behind.
